What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is when very thin needles are inserted into parts of the skin to help healing. It can help lower long-lasting pain (chronic pain) and migraine headaches. It is done by trained providers called Acupuncturists. Medi-Cal covers acupuncture to lower long-lasting pain, known as chronic pain, including migraine headache.
How long does it take to feel better?
Most people feel better within weeks after starting acupuncture. Acupuncture is usually done once or twice a week and sometimes less as patients start feeling better. The acupuncturist will talk to you about the plan to treat your pain and will change the plan if you do not feel better. (Straight talk - covered benefits are limited to 2 visits per month). Most offices and community care clinics have enormous wait times up to 2 months out and don't want to services low income clients. We at One Body Acupuncture value your story and have been working to expand access across communities in North San Diego County for nearly a decade. We want you to feel our community presense so although space is limited we will eliminate lenghty wait times for yout care and always provide ways to access the benefits of quality care.
What will the acupuncturist do to treat my pain?
The acupuncturist will insert very thin needles into the skin. The needles are so thin that most people can barely feel them. Sometimes the needles are used with a device that gives very low electrical stimulation to larger muscles. The acupuncturist may also use other things like using ice, heat, and massage to lower your pain (Straight talk - massage is a noncovered benefit). Your acupuncturist might also talk with you about healthy eating and helpful ways to move your body.
Program Coverage
• Limited to treatment performed to prevent, modify or alleviate the perception of severe,
persistent chronic pain resulting from a generally recognized medical condition.
• Used with or without electric stimulation of the needles.
• Used to treat a condition also covered by other modalities.
